Why Marginalia?

Marginalia are notes, comments, or drawings made in the margins of a book, often providing additional insight or perspective.

Reclaiming the Edges

The constant stress of being outsiders in our society can sap our energy and put us into survival mode. Consciously or unconsciously, we may force some aspects of our identities, hopes, and dreams into the dark corners and margins of our lives. Therapy is a safe place to shine a light on them.

Unearthing Treasures

Finding marginalia in an old book is like finding a message in a bottle from the past. Searching within and understanding yourself is similarly magical.

Embracing Exploration

Actively reading and jotting down notes illustrates a desire to look beyond the surface of the text and discover deeper meaning. Therapy encourages open-minded exploration of your story and identity. The insights you discover will help you shape a life that works for you.

(Of course, it’s not always that deep. Sometimes it’s just a snail-cat from the margins of a Medieval manuscript. And that’s okay! Our silly and whimsical bits have a place in therapy too.)
